PURLEY

118-120 PAMPISFORD ROAD

22   /   12   /   2022

Project Size : 22 Units
Appointment : RIBA Stages 2-3
Status : Pending
Client : DP (Pampisford) Ltd

A contemporary re-interpretation of the tradition detached houses prevalent within the area. The proposal draws upon cues and ideas built into the character of the street and includes design references to details, proportions, and materiality from the immediate setting.

The design has been developed with a clear concept taken from the character of the area. This is explained in further detail in the initial diagram ‘right’ and overleaf in this section. The proposal responds positively to adjacent building scales and form and the wider street context.

A strong visual rhythm is created by the adjacent existing houses, 112 – 116 Pampisford Rd, all with gabled ended pitched roofs running parallel to the road. This has the effect of creating a continuous run of stepped roofs as the road rises north, towards The Close.

Gable ended pitched roof orientation has been reviewed to orient facing street front, to create a strong feature included in the proposed scheme, emphasizing the rhythm of existing elements & forming a natural continuation of the stepped roof form while creating a more expressive and adjacently common street frontage.
